Hotel Playa Media Luna is a small cozy,
beachfront hotel located on Isla Mujeres
right around the corner from the North
Beach. All 18 rooms have ocean views.
Each room at Hotel Playa Media Luna has
a large balcony with a hammock and chairs.
Each room also has air conditioning, a
ceiling fan, and a refrigerator.
9 of the 18 rooms have 2 double beds.
Both the 2 suites and the 7 king rooms
have a king sized bed. The suites also
have cable TV with international
news shows in English. All are decorated
in soft pastels in a traditional Mexican
style.
There is a freshwater swimming pool
right on the beach with a swim-up bar.
The hotel is located on the Half Moon
beach (Playa Media Luna) of Isla Mujeres
facing east towards the surf of the Caribbean.
This location allows you to enjoy the
steady breeze from the Caribbean. It's
a rare day that you will need the air-conditioning
or even the ceiling fan.
The hotel is located on the northern
outskirts of town - and near to the Hotel
Na Balam. Half-moon bay is great for soaking
in and enjoying the natural surge of the
sea. You are protected from the force
of the waves by a hidden reef. (Actually
you can sort of see the reef in the photo
above. It's right where the last line
of surf before the beach breaks. The dark
patch between the surf and the beach is
some short eelgrass) So you see the waves
coming at you and they break at the last
second. It's exciting and soothing at
the same time. Like a natural Jacuzzi.
And extraordinarily beautiful. Just be
sure not to climb over the reef and into
the waves. (Not an easy thing to do) The
currents are very strong.
It's right around the "corner"
from the calm waters of Playa Norte -
about 90 second stroll in bare feet (I
timed it). There the water is as placid
as it can be.
The location of Hotel Playa Media Luna
is great too because even though the beach
has very few visitors, the hotel is on
the outskirts of the town of Isla Mujeres.
So you don't need a cab to get to town
to do your shopping or dining. The hotel
has arranged for meal delivery with several
of Isla Mujeres' finest restaurants. So
that's one more reason to stay put and
enjoy the natural beauty of this little
frequented corner of Isla de Mujeres.
